The around 10,000 sqm building was part of the portfolio of fifty-seven properties belonging to Frankfurter Sparkasse acquired jointly by DIC and Morgan Stanley Real Estate Funds at the end of 2004.
Work began in late August 2006 to convert and redesign the former head office of Frankfurter Sparkasse to meet the new requirements.
Only ten month later, the renovation work on Frankfurt's new City Library was completed. Inside, the new facility now offers modern, generously proportioned library premises with a sculpted library tower. In addition to the major alterations to the interior, the square in front of the building was redesigned.
The total investment volume of the development project was in the region of EUR 25 million.
The new City Library was officially opened on 19 September 2007.
